Day 13

Tuesday, July 6th
Rest day in Golden
0km

After a hard day's ride into Golden, we get today off before another hard day's ride out of Golden.

I spet in until 9am, which is a real treat after the 5:30am mornings of last week.

A bunch of us went white water rafting. On the kicking horse river in the afternoon.  Rafting was a new experience for me, and a lot of fun.  They gave us layers of wet suits, sweaters, gloves, booties, etc. before sending us down the class 3 and 4 rapids with only a guide to protect us.  We got soaked in the 4 degree water, but saw the scenery from a different angle and had an exhilerating time.

At one point, I jokingly asked “when do we get to the swiming area?”. Our guide said, whenever you like, so we all jumped out of the boat and into the rapids.  That was a lot of fun.  Even better than the rafting.

Dan - sounds like you are having a great trip thus far. I really enjoy reading your highlights (and wish that I was out riding instead of in the office). Keep it up! katherine

Yeah! White water rafting is great fun -- we did it in Jasper Park when went out west and it was one of the highlights of the trip. Mind you, we spent a lot of energy making sure that we stayed IN the raft!

Daniel - congrats on your trip & good luck. Your dad is showing everyone at work this blog. Couldn't you have taken him with you so we could have some peace for a change? My friend just bought a moped to ride from Fort Erie to Niagara Falls - it's top speed is 60, ideal is 50 km (it's called the Silver Bullet) - sounds like you'd beat it no problem!

Enjoy yourself, and next time you do it, take dad (we'll take up a collection to help pay for him!)- he sounds so envious!
